Story of Linkin Park

Linkin Park is a six-piece Californian nu metal band like Korn, Skid Row, Limp Bizkit, Staind and Orgy.

The band saw its beginnings in emcee/vocalist Mike Shinoda's small bedroom studio, where he and Delson recorded the band's first material in 1996. The two had attended high school together, where they met the band's drummer, Rob Bourdon. Shinoda hooked up with DJ Joseph Hahn while studying illustration at Art Center College in Pasadena. Meanwhile, attending UCLA, Delson shared an apartment with bassist Phoenix, who left the band after college and returned a year later. At this point, they named themselves Xero and recorded several demo tracks. They never got signed, and the project floundered. Then Shinoda decided to hire a vocalist, and put out an ad. Initially, they recruited Mark Wakefield the vocalist, then taken over by Chester Bennington until now, while Mike and so rapper. Unfortunately, because the name of Xero has used another group, they were forced to change its name to Hybrid Theory. Then, Hybrid Theory signed a recording contract with a company called Warner Bros.. Records after successfully launches Hybrid Theory EP titled EP in 1999 as many as a thousand pieces .They got Chester Bennington, a transplanted Arizona native who started making records when he was 16. "When I was two, I used to run around singing Foreigner songs--there's tapes of me doing that...Since I learned how to talk I've been telling everybody I was gonna grow up to be a singer." laughs Bennington.

The band called itself Hybrid Theory after the addition of Bennington (The idea being that they were a hybrid of rock and rap), however, due to a copyright issue with a band called Hybrid, they were forced to change their name. Some discarded ideas (serious or not) were Clear (the band's favorite), Probing Lagers (Which they thought was the lamest), Ten PM Stocker (Because they would record every night at 10 pm at a place on Stocker Street) and Platinum Lotus Foundation. Eventually, they settled on Lincoln Park, suggested by Bennington because after band practice he would have to drive past there to get home. The domain name LincolnPark.com was taken and would be too expensive to buy, so they changed the spelling to Linkin Park and took from that their band name.

After being signed to Warner Brothers in 1999 their first album, Hybrid Theory, was released in 2000. It was the top-selling album in the United States and New Zealand in 2001, with the hit singles "One Step Closer", "In the End", and "Crawling". The album is notable for its absence of profanity, in contrast to many other nu metal bands' songs.

Linkin Park were part of the Ozzfest in 2001, touring along side Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Papa Roach, and Disturbed

Linkin Park have created their own tour - Projekt: Revolution, and on it have toured with Cypress Hill, Adema, DJ Z-Trip Xzibit, Mudvayne and Blindside.

In 2003 Linkin Park joined forces with fellow nu-metal band Limp Bizkit and Metallica for the Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003. From this tour, Linkin Park released a new record, Live in Texas, a live album containing tracks from Hybrid Theory and Meteora, recorded in the arena broadcast at Dallas, Texas.

In 2004, Linkin Park created the Meteora World Tour. This tour included Linkin Park, P.O.D., Hoobastank, and Story of the Year.
Linkin Park was touring with Snoop Dogg, The Used, KoЯn, and Less Than Jake on the main stage, and No Warning, Ghostface, Funeral for a Friend, M.O.P., and Downset on the second stage as part of Projekt Revolution 2004. They also had a travelling DJ, Z-Trip with them, along with Irvin the Urban Action Figure.
On November 30, 2004, Linkin Park released Collision Course, a collaboration with rapper Jay-Z featuring rap-style remixes ("mash-ups") of songs from Meteora and Hybrid Theory using lyrics from Jay-Z's repertoire. Collision Course debuted at #1 in the US, but peaked at #17 in the UK. In the Netherlands Collision Course topped the charts at 7th place. Their first Collision Course hit single, Numb/Encore, reached #1 at the Free Record Shop Download Charts in the Netherlands.

On the eve of its initial public offering in May 2005, Linkin Park demanded to be released from its contract with Warner Brothers Music on the grounds of a lack of confidence. The band is in negotiations with the label over a new record contract. Linkin Park still has four albums outstanding on its 2000 record contract.
In 2005, Linkin Park more major charity concert. They help victims of the tsunami in December 2004 in a concert titled Music For Relief. Linkin Park also helped raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2004. Meanwhile, Mike Shinoda joined with Fort Minor on the album "The Rising Tied". Chester Bennington also had a solo project called Snow White Tan which then popularly known as Dead By Sunrise. Then, Linkin Park went to Japan in 2006 to follow the popular music festivals in Japan, the Summer Sonic.

In 2006, they began recording material for Linkin Park's latest album, namely "Minutes To Midnight". Many who criticize Linkin Park because it is often delayed its release. However, Linkin Park ensures that the album on May 14, 2007 is appropriate for their collection. According to Linkin Park, they named her new album "Minutes To Midnight" (the minutes toward the middle of the night) because of the nuclear issue on this earth that can destroy the world at midnight. A total of 100 songs demo has been created but only 12 are included in the album. No wonder this album was recorded during 14 months. In the album Minutes To Midnight, elements of nu metal music is less viscous. Nevertheless, this album is still popular. The proof is the album sold nearly as many as 625 thousand copies in its first week (a record in the year 2007). This third studio album produced by Mike Shinoda and Rick Rubin, the former personnel Beastie Boys. His first singles, "What I've Done", has started playing on the radio on April 2, 2007. Minutes To Midnight also occupy the top Billboard. On August 20, 2007, Linkin Park released their second single, namely "Bleed It Out". And, in October, Linkin Park will release their single "Shadow of the Day" At the beginning of its formation, Linkin Park rock. After the entry of a DJ or turntablis named Joe Hahn, Linkin Park changed the flow is into hip-hop. However, the album Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park changed again flow into nu metal and rapcore. Also on the album Meteora, Linkin Park also just add electronic elements In October 2008 Mike Shinoda revealed on his blog that he, Phoenix and Hahn had begun working on two song ideas at Hahn's home, with studio recording to begin in earnest soon. In 2008, Bennington announced that Linkin Park's fourth studio release will be a concept album. The band has not released many specific details about the album. In an interview with MTV in November 2008, Bennington stated, "It sounds a little daunting to me, so, I think my confidence level will drop, but when it was presented to us by this friend of ours, we liked the idea. It was an inspiring idea, and it was something we could relate a lot of the things we like to write about to". He also added that the band planned to begin recording in December for a six-week session. The album was expected in mid 2009, but in late March, Mike Shinoda wrote on his blog saying "We're hoping to have Chester's Dead By Sunrise album out this fall, and the new LP album out early next year."

In April 2009, Shinoda revealed on his blog that Linkin Park would be working on the score for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with successful film composer, Hans Zimmer. On May 7, it was further confirmed that the song recorded for the film was titled "New Divide", and was released as a single on May 18. The music video for "New Divide" was released on June 12, 2009 and was directed by Hahn. On June 22, 2009, the band played a short set after the premiere of the movie. The concert took place on the street in Westwood Village.
In July 2009, Linkin Park played at the Sonisphere Festival in Europe. They also played at the Epicenter music festival In August 2009. Linkin Park performing at Sonisphere Festival in Finland.

On January 19, 2010, Linkin Park released a new song entitled "Not Alone" as part of a compilation from Music for Relief in support of the Haiti Earthquake crisis. On February 10, 2010, Linkin Park released the official music video for the song on their homepage.

The band has produced a video game titled 8-Bit Rebellion!, released April 26, 2010, for the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad. The game includes a new song, "Blackbirds", which is unlocked when the player completes the game. Mike Shinoda has also stated that the game will be regularly updated with new content over time.
On July 8, Linkin Park officially announced that their new album, A Thousand Suns, is scheduled to be released on September 14. The album's first single, "The Catalyst," was released on August 2, A second song, Wretches and Kings, was released on September 2 to people who pre-ordered the album through Linkin Park's official website (which was in keeping with the band's promise that those who pre-ordered the album through the official website would receive music before any other outlet). On September 8, 2010, the band further debuted two more tracks "Waiting for the End" and "Blackout" on their Myspace Page. The band have also released a new compilation exclusively for Linkin Park Underground members entitled Underground X: Demos, which contains multiple unreleased songs and demos.
